ood
thing this is my own website. Sometimes these intros can seem really over the
top. Here we go: Hello, my name is Jocelyn. I have lived in California all my
life and am the great-granddaughter of a California settler. I have always been
an upbeat, positive person who believes in the inherent humanity of others.
Which explains why I find myself so shocked at times. I left high school when
I was 16 with a CHSPE (California High School Proficiency Exam) and never looked
back. I have attended many colleges and universities since then all in a goal
to further, what I like to call my, 'lifelong dedication to learning'. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Applications and Networking, and an Associates of Arts in Art History. And yes, it was tough to put myself through school and raise a family at the same time.
y professional
background is I am a board member for the Center
for Creative History; I produce and perform in the annual San
Diego Renaissance Faire with a group of like-minded volunteers since it's inception in 1999. Back in 1997 I worked for several years at various Fortune 500 companies in San Diego
as a Webmaster and ended up as a senior project manager in E-Commerce in 2002.
I am currently on a hiatus from the technical side of my career while I homeschool
my son. Combining my project management background and all the additional experience
I have gotten from the last three years producing the San Diego Renaissance
Faire, and other community volunteer opportunities, I probably will go into
special events production if and when I do return to paid work. I have participated
in, or taught living history since the
mid '70's, and teach classes around the county on everything from fiber arts to costume design to exotic animal training.
y husband is from
Poland, and has, in my biased opinion, what appears to be a much better
education than I ever had access to as a Californian in the Public school system.
He was my inspiration and my support when I finally gathered up the courage
to put myself through college. I like to joke that following my major was low effort, as I have
always been a computer hobbyist, but it was one of my proudest accomplishments
that I finally earned my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science in 2000. I am
homeschooling my son under a charter, and currently maintain my
R4 status school as well under the California GATE student's right of dual enrollment.
e have a flock of parrots, too many cats, a couple of herps, and, along with two hounds, I am embarrassed to find myself completely
enamored by a very yappy Chihuahua lovingly named, Atchoo! It's no rumor that
I hate to wash dishes, have terrible writing skills, and would rather read a
good, classic
Science Fiction novel than do
housework. My hair is blond, my eyes are blue and the rest is subject to change
without notice.
have finally accepted the fact that I am Secular Humanist adrift in the world of homeschooling. I occasionally feel that I have become entrenched in a city chock full of a new breed of "republicans" that want to change everything to suit them. I have a tendency to cling stubbornly to my libertarian viewpoints. As such, every so often I find that my very existence gets me into hot water with some of the more "extreme
personalities" out there . However, I feel life is too short to waste on bigots and bullies and thus refuse
to engage confrontational people. I have been told I am a tolerant, easy-going person who finds
it simpler to just go my own way than hash something out ad neasuem. Naturally there is stress at times. And, as such, my outlet and alternative to getting into online or personal battles over what prejudiced people rush to assume
are my beliefs or values, is to focus my energy into a
very opinionated blog. It is therapeutic for me, and
it results in a lot less drama.
